The 2025 BMW 4 Series

Meet the 4 Series Family at Grayson BMW.

The dynamic duo of the 3-series and 4-series remains among the bestsellers in the BMW family. However, The 2025 BMW 4 Series lineup delivers more variety with its Coupe, sedan, and convertible body types.

If you're unsure of which model is right for you, this guide might help. You could also take a peek at our Research Hub, where we share information on choosing the right model and have more detailed guides on each individual model.

This year marks the middle of the second generation for the BMW 4 Series, bringing exciting updates across all models. Let's get started exploring the lineup.

Gas-Powered

Even with electric vehicles growing in popularity, gas-powered Series 4 models remain the bestsellers in the family. These vehicles offer attractive pricing while delivering outstanding performance and generous features. We present three options: the 4 Series Coupe, Gran Coupe, and Convertible.

4 Series Coupe

The Coupe represents the origin story of the 4-series and what many believe embodies its spirit the best. It's clean, sporty, and fast, just how it ought to be. The base engine, a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine, reaches 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds with 255 horses.

The upgraded 3.0L BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder delivers 386 hp, reducing that time to 4.2 seconds. New for this year, the addition of 48-volt mild hybrid technology improves efficiency and adds extra power when starting from low speeds. The cabin sees redesigned Honeycomb air vents and comfortable SensaTec seats.

While having a coupe changes the interior, it mostly affects the exterior look. The Coupe features a sleeker profile with a more aggressive stance than the sedan. The exterior also gets a facelift with new fascias and slimmer headlights.

4 Series Gran Coupe

For a long time, the main distinction between the 3 Series and 4 Series used to be that the 4 Series had two doors in response to the 3 Series sedan. Not anymore. The Gran Coupe is now one of the more popular models thanks to its executive style. It represents the largest gas-powered 4-series, offering the most headroom and legroom for up to 5 adult passengers.

Technology comes from the BMW Operating System 8.5, displayed on a dual-setup infotainment system. The BMW Curved Display consists of a configurable 12.3" instrument cluster and a 14.9" central information display. It extends from the center of the dash toward the driver in a modern style.

The exterior design features rear lights with high-precision laser technology. More chrome accents appear on this model, particularly around the grille.

4 Series Convertible

Although xDrive will come in handy when there's snow on the ground, Tennessee drivers might want something different in the summer: fresh air. Riding in style begins before you even reach your car with the BMW Digital Key. Once settled inside on the luxurious Vernasca Leather, you can use the smart BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with voice control.

When ready to take off, bring the tailored soft top up or down. The reinforced panels reduce road noise and insulate against the cold. This movement takes just 10 seconds and works while driving at speeds up to 30 mph. Onlookers are treated to an exterior resembling the Coupe with two doors, a sharp profile, and stylish 19-inch wheels.

Electric

Next, we move on to the first-ever all-electric Gran Coupé. Since its introduction a few years ago, it has been getting rave reviews from industry specialists and drivers alike. Electric vehicles are the future, and for good reason.

i4

The biggest difference between the 2025 BMW i4 and the previous Series 4 models lies in power. The setup varies between single or dual motors on the front and rear axle, depending on the trim. With the M50, you can go 0-60 in as little as 3.7 seconds, riding on 536 horsepower with xDrive. For a more affordable option, consider the eDrive40 model. This one uses rear-wheel drive with one motor to achieve 335 horsepower and goes 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.

Although the powertrain differs completely, the interior remains classic BMW. Even the M flat-bottom steering wheel stands unique, with its three-spoke design and blue accents. The exterior shines with Lightweight 19" M aerodynamic Bi-color wheels. BMW IconicSounds Electric simulates engine sounds accurately enough.

You can expect roughly 300 miles of fully electric range with the eDrive, but eventually charging becomes necessary. Options include the Flexible Fast Charger or BMW Wallbox. You can also find public stations easily with the My BMW App. Also worth noting: every BMW EV includes premium maintenance services from a nationwide dealer network and an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. We proudly participate in that dealer network.

    M

Last but definitely not least, we come to the all-star player in our 2025 BMW 4-series lineup: The Motorsport. These represent the fastest, strongest, and most performance-driven vehicles in the 4-series, as they do in every BMW family.

    M4 Coupe

Let's keep things simple. The M4 Coupe stands as the single fastest BMW 4 Series on the market today. There may come a time when the electric i4 catches up but for now, the 3.4-second 0-60 time remains unbeaten. You'll find this record belongs to the BMW M4 CS, which sports a fine-tuned BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder with 543 horsepower. It pairs with an 8-speed M Steptronic Sport Transmission offering automatic or manual control.

Supporting such power requires serious hardware. The M Compound Brakes with red calipers provide excellent stopping power while looking sharp. Quadruple exhausts and the Active M Differential enhance the performance capabilities. Inside, maintain a firm grip on the M Star or Alcantara steering wheel with mounted paddle-shifters and launch control.

Style-wise, settle into the Merino Leather upholstery featuring bright red CS lettering and bold bi-color M Carbon Bucket Seats. The M4 Coupe models display a distinctive yellow glow in the LED adaptive headlights.

    M4 Convertible

If you're willing to sacrifice a few performance points but earn a ton of style points, the M4 Convertible is the right choice. Having a different roof only reduces the 0-60 time by 0.2 seconds thanks to the incredible BMW M TwinPower Turbo engine and M xDrive all-wheel drive. Inside the cabin, the bucket seats have an illuminated M badge and pretty carbon accents.

The exterior offers optional 20-inch wheels for an even meaner look. At the back, updated three-dimensional fiberglass clusters catch attention. Elegant silver accents complete the look. With intricately woven shiny threads, the M4's soft top shimmers in the sunlight.

    Frequently Asked Questions

That used to be true, but not anymore. The 4-Series Gran Coupe mirrors the Coupe but provides four doors, one extra seat, and significantly more legroom and headroom. The newer i4 electric sedan offers a clean and efficient alternative to traditional gasoline engines.
The models vary greatly in pricing. Traditional gas-powered Series 4 Coupe Gran Coupe and Convertible start at $51,150, $49,650, and $59,150, respectively. The i4 ranges from $57,900-$70,700 depending on motor setup. Motorsport versions command premium prices, with the M4 starting at $89,000 while the Convertible begins at $96,000.
When looking at the i4, you'll notice an eDrive model. Unlike xDrive, the eDrive model represents the trim with one electric motor instead of two. Since it drives the rear axle, we get rear-wheel drive.
