Standard beginning in 2012, the 3 Series Sedan features BMW's latest generation iDrive system which shares a common interface, display logic and console mounted controller with other BMW models.
Like the 6 Series before it, the 3 Series features a free-standing display positioned prominently atop the dash where it is visually accessible with just a quick glance. This new free-standing design recalls the latest flatscreen televisions normally found in living rooms rather than cars. The system features a standard 6.5 in. high-resolution display, which grows to 8.8 in. when equipped with optional Navigation.
The display uses transreflective technology, meaning direct sunlight serves to enhance the vibrancy and visibility of on-screen images.
iDrive allows for various languages to be displayed, including English, Spanish or French. To change the language, follow these simple steps:
- On the main iDrive menu, select "Settings"
- Select "Language/Units"
- Select "Language"
- Select the desired language
This setting will be stored in the Personal Profile for the remote control currently in use.
