All of us here at Grayson BMW get excited when the Frankfurt Motor Show rolls around. This year, the all-new BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car had its world debut and was met with acclaim from fans, industry experts, and more.
Over the past few years, plug-in hybrid and all electricl vehicles have seen incredible growth in the market, and BMW is looking to cash in with their new i8 plug in hybrid.
We've seen the pictures of this sleek new hybrid car, and we can tell you one thing for certain: This is not your grandfathers Prius.
The BMW i8 is built in a 2 + 2 seating set up with state of the art aerodynamics, thanks to the BMW LifeDrive architecture made specifically for the BMW i series models. The design also features a new set of 10-spoke rims, giving the model an appealing, sporty look.
Under the hood sits a 1.5-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine, churning out a decent 231 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, channeled to the rear wheels by way of a six-speed automatic transmission. At the same time, an electric motor sends 131 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a two-speed automatic to the front wheels.
Combined, the all-wheel drive i8 has 362 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, allowing the vehicle to reach 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Excited yet? We certainly are, this BMW hybrid model will certainly not disappoint even the most hardcore of BMW fans.
The BMW i8 is expected to arrive in the US in spring of 2014. Grayson BMW will be sure to have more information on this exciting new model as it becomes available on our BMW Blog.
